NEWBURYPORT – Jarred and Nadiia Sadowski are hosting a fundraising dinner Sunday afternoon at the historic Custom House Maritime Museum. The dinner of authentic Ukrainian dishes is raising funds the Sadowskis send to buy food in Nadiia’s hometown that is under Russian occupation.
More than 40 people attended their first Ukrainian Tasting Event on April 30, raising at least $4,000 to buy food for residents of Nova Kahovka in southern Ukraine. The first dinner was held at their Plum Island home.
This dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 12 will be under a tent at the rear of the museum overlooking the Merrimack River.
“Everyone is welcome to enjoy,” the Sadowskis wrote. “We are excited to introduce you to the food & culture of Ukraine.
Nadiia is a native Ukrainian living in Newburyport since 2018. She will be following her family recipes for the food selections being offered during the event.
The menu of 15 traditional Ukrainian foods are warm weather dishes that include cold borsch, cold summer soup, butternut squash soup with bacon, meat and vegetable patties, potato patties, beet spread, vegetable salad and fruit compote. There will also be refreshments.
Nadiia will also sell her hand-made Ukrainian floral head crowns and cards from a local Ukrainian artist.
All purchases and donations to support people in need in Nova Kahovka, Ukraine, a city of over 40,000 people.
