NEWBURYPORT – From the classroom at the Immaculate Conception School to the art gallery at Illume Bookstore on Market Square, Philippa Dunn brings her natural realistic paintings for all to enjoy.
The latest featured artist at Jen Perry’s Illume, Dunn is inspired by the time she spends by the sea. One of her larger paintings in this exhibition is of a battered and rusting metal buoy floating off the
coast of Maine.

To capture the scene, she paddle-boarded out to Buoy No. 7, fascinated by the sunlight on the water that made it seem it was floating in the ocean with no horizon. Only another buoy can be scene in the water behind.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Dunn was raised in countries across Europe, which helped shape her interests and style of art. Now settled with her family in New England, she teaches art to the students of Immaculate Conception School and continues to take art classes and explore her own art.
“Grounded in nature and realism, I create detailed and lifelike artworks that capture moments of joy, awe and inspiration,” she wrote. She invites all “to slow down and be present in the space around you.”
Dunn’s show will be on exhibit at Illume Books, 10 Market Square, through July. ♦
