NEWBURYPORT − If you are looking for an evening of Celtic music that lifts you with its blend of jazz, swing and classical influences, plan now to spend Saturday night with Cécilia at the Belleville Congregational Church for its next roots concert.
Recognized as three of Canada’s finest musicians, Cécilia’s Timi Turmel, Erin Leahy and Louis Schryer honor their shared heritage with high-spirited sound.
“It is a delight to witness how much joy they take in playing together. It’s a sound that feels both deeply rooted and refreshingly new, like a centuries-old reel that suddenly learned how to dance in a Paris café,” the Belleville news release states.
A favorite at last year’s Lowell Folk Festival, Cécilia features a remarkable interplay of instruments and voices, with accordions and violins, piano and foot percussion.
“What sets Cécilia apart is their fearless musical curiosity,” the Belleville release states. “A traditional French-Canadian tune might slip seamlessly into a jazzy improvisation, then pivot into a swing rhythm that feels straight out of a smoky Montreal club. Just when you think you know where the music is headed, they take a joyful turn—and invite you along for the ride!!
