Local Business Spotlight: Pratt’s Hobby Shop
by Kay Lee Ogden
This week’s “spotlight” business is Pratt’s Hobby Shop, located at 20 East Main Street. Phone: 978.352.2234.
Tues – Fi: 12 – 6 pm Sat: 10:30 am –
4 pm.
Pratt’s hobby shop was opened by Peter Pratt, in 1974. He retired in 2020 and that is when Rossana and Scott Paganelli purchased the business – on Peter’s 80th Birthday! And it is extremely sad to say, that Peter passed away August 30th, 2023.
Pratt’s hobby shop has been a town favorite for many years! Specializing in: remote control cars, boats, planes, plastic models, and supplies, as well as, gold and silver coins collections.

The kiddos love visiting their store as they have so much to offer. I remember the kiddos enjoying Thursday nights, and Saturdays, racing their cars in the downtown parking lot, with their dads, and families. The competition was tough, with the quality of cars, and planes, purchased from Pratt’s store! The Paganelli’s offer our kids the opportunity to explore, and engage in something other than the digital screen! It encourages them the sense of adventure, and fun with their fathers and families!
Pratt’s Hobby Shop is an extremely unique store, offering trades of models, and purchases of gold and silver. They purchase gold, and silver, and will buy coins, jewelry, fine watches, and other fine gold and silver items.
Collecting coins is a terrific hobby for children; it teaches them, how to save, creates early investment, and teaches them how to make wise decisions.
People appreciate the human connection. You matter to the Paganelli’s, and they are grateful that you chose them!

Their store is small but powerful! Offering U.S. and foreign coins is the best investment. With the anxiety, and uncertainty of the future, with stocks, bonds, and your 401k, you have a long term advantage of owning silver, and gold, and it’s in your possession!

Why do customers want to shop at your store? “Because we have a long healthy standing with the community of honesty, fair pricing, and treating people like family. We built our reputation, by word of mouth, and customer respect!” “People come from everywhere to shop with us, because of our reputation.”
“This is a place for children OF ALL AGES (!) to come for healthy hobbies, and encouraging words, and have fun!!!!” “Please stop in, and see what we have to offer, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!”
We offer free appraisals, on coins, sports memorabilia, jewelry, historical pieces, and old items!
NOTE: Pratt’s Hobby Shop is located in downtown Georgetown near the intersection of Central and Main Streets, just a few doors down from the Salem Five. Be sure to visit them, then check out the other stores in the area, including the thrift store full of gems next door, the tea shop, and Tina’s “Bent” Emporium across the street in the Eagle building (open afternoon), and don’t forget Scala’s across the square! A great lunchtime trip to explore all of these and more hidden treasures in downtown Georgetown.
