REGIONAL – The 13th Annual Comedy Night to raise money for cancer victims through the Solace for Stephanie (Jenkins) last month ago raised $24,300, one of the organization’s biggest year.
In a wrap-up letter to the hundreds of “angels,” who participated in the Comedy Night with comedian Paul Gilligan, the host of the event, MaryAnn (Mo) Levasseur wrote: “Whether it was hands on behind the scenes, to purchasing a ticket, to sending a donation, to sponsoring a gift card, to volunteering that night. We could go on and on. YOU made the difference.”
Levasseur, a longtime friend of popular hairdresser Jenkins before her death, and Stephanie’s family, who together run the charity, they wanted to close the books at $25,000. “If you would like to help us reach $25K, you can go to our website and use the Make A Donation button at the top and help get us to $25K this year which would be a record for us!”
Solace for Stephanie uses the funds to support cancer victims with gift cards for prescriptions, gas, groceries and even personal care. Since it was founded, Solace has helped more than 100 cancer survivors.
A highlight was Stephanie’s sister, Ann Marie, flew in from Florida to attend the Comedy night. “That was BIG,” Levasseur wrote.
Other angels Levasseur recognized included Maureen Sabino, who will do anything we ask of her and Randy Sabino, who allowed Solace to use extra office space in his building as we had more raffle items.
Chris Breen, who attends and makes a donation for the raffle every year.
The Topsfield Police Department and the Georgetown Police and Fire Departments for their support. “You make a difference!” Levasseur wrote.
Ron Agrella, who got together a table of 12 together.
Chris Connolly for his “Never ending support!” My man in white! Get it!
Roger and Karlene Merry, who have supported Solace from the beginning.
Arthur Skarmeas, Linda Flaherty and Mike DiFilippo from Skarmeas Law for buying a table and Linda always going the extra mile.
The business network group, BNI, made a difference this year, Levasseur, a member of the group, wrote.
The event, held at the Topsfield Fair, included dinner by Dinner Ala Cart and a full bar. The comedians included Gilligan, Paul D’Angelo and Mitch Stinson who kept the audience laughing.
