Newburyport – Maudslay is Haunted, Theater in the Open’s annual fall fundraiser will return to Maudslay State Park in-person on October 23 and 24, with a rain date on October 30. Gates are open from 1:30 to 4pm, and tickets will be on sale at the event.
Maudslay is Haunted is a tradition in Newburyport dating back to 1987. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 version was held on an app that allowed patrons to walk the trail during the whole month of October. “We were happy to do something that felt a little bit like Maudslay is Haunted last year,” said Executive Director, Kelly Shea Knowles. “But without the lines of kids in costumes or hearing the ‘Monster Mash,’ it made us really look forward to presenting it in person as soon as we could do so safely.” Shea Knowles added that, “It’s also a really critical fundraiser for us; the proceeds go a long way toward supporting the free theater we’ll present next spring and summer, so we hope to see lots of friends and supporters out in the Park this year!”
The haunted trail walk lasts about an hour, is family-friendly and features a range of ghostly scenes developed by members of the Theater in the Open company alongside students from the Summer Arts Workshop. It’s a little silly, a little spooky and a lot of fun. What’s more, Maudslay State Park really shows off its beauty this time of year, so it’s the perfect weekend for a stroll along the river.
Tickets are available at the gate: $10 per person, children 4 and under are free. Parking at Maudslay State Park is $5 for cars with Massachusetts license plates, $20 for cars with non-MA plates. Rain date is October 30.
