GEORGETOWN – Vacation on the part of a town employee apparently scuttled the discussion of
cancer concerns from last week’s SelectBoard’s meeting.
Residents had jammed the recent Board of Health meeting, concerned with high incidents of cancer in
certain neighborhoods of this town They were told the numbers are such that the state will be looking into the matter, and their concerns will be investigated. The matter was requested to be placed on the SelectBoard’s agenda by Selectman Mike Donahue but the agenda item was surprisingly delayed.
When a resident attempted to address the board during the open comments section of the meeting, he was shut down by acting chair Laura Repplier stating that the matter was not on the agenda. He was directed to the health department.

PERHAPS UNRELATED: The water department cautioned residents last fall after exceeding contaminate levels for three quarters: “People drinking water containing HAA5 in excess of the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer, and young children and pregnant women may be more susceptible,” they cautioned.
