Hampton School District to Honor Three Retiring Staff Members
HAMPTON, N.H. — The Hampton School District invites the community to attend a new event to honor three longtime staff members who will retire at the end of the school year.
The district will recognize Food Services Director Mary Borg, Library Media Specialist Alison Griffin and Centre School Administrative Assistant Melanie Liebenow for their years of service and contributions to Hampton schools.
The district’s first Retirement Tea will be held from 3-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, in the SAU90 Conference Room, 6 Marston Way. Refreshments will be served.
“We are deeply grateful to Mary, Alison and Melanie for the dedication they have shown to generations of Hampton students and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Lois Costa. “Each of them has made a lasting impact on our schools and community. They will be greatly missed, and we wish them all the best in retirement.”

Borg is highly regarded as a supportive, responsible and caring member of the staff and leadership team. She accommodates many requests for catering and the initiatives she brings to the school are driven by her personal philosophy, “healthy kids equals healthy minds.”
Borg and her husband live in Hampton and have three grown children who live in the area, and grandchildren who are students at Hampton Schools.
Alison Griffin
Griffin began her career at the Marston School as a third-grade teacher in 1997. She has served as Library Media Specialist since 2001
Griffin has hosted many authors and book fairs, demonstrating her commitment to extended learning opportunities and promoting a school-wide love of literacy. She has contributed to other events as well, such as the fifth-grade performances, field day, cricket tournaments and the Variety Show.
She has been praised for her contributions to holiday parades, the Schools of Excellence application and site visit, and the Marston School Playground Project.
Colleagues have called her “hardworking,” “an integral member of the staff,” and “Goddess of the Media Center.”
Griffin lives in Portsmouth, where she will join her husband in retirement.
Melanie Liebenow
Liebenow brought significant private sector experience to the SAU90, first as secretary at Barnard School in South Hampton, then at Centre School.
Liebenow is valued by her fellow staff members for her “wonderful presence, kind and considerate ways” and the care that she has shown for others in the school community.
Liebenow is also a grandmother to several current Hampton students and will continue to be an active member of the school community. ♦
