BOXFORD – At its meeting on Monday, June 30, the Boxford Select Board unanimously appointed Attilio “A.J.” Paglia as Captain of the Boxford Police Department, following a formal recommendation by Police Chief James Riter. The appointment is effective immediately.
“Sergeant Paglia joined the police department in 1998 as a reserve officer,” said Police Chief James Riter. “He was promoted to sergeant in 2023, and I’m proud to recommend him now for the rank of captain. He has been a steady and committed presence for our community for over two decades.”
In his new role as Captain, Paglia will serve as second-in-command of the department, overseeing operations, supporting personnel, and assisting with departmental planning.
Speaking at the meeting, Captain Paglia expressed gratitude for the opportunity:
“It’s truly an honor and a privilege. I enjoy coming to work every day. I love the town of Boxford—it’s a wonderful community. It’s also an honor to work under the fine leadership of Chief Riter, who lives the mission of the department every day. I look forward to continuing to serve as part of his command staff in this new capacity and helping achieve the department’s goals.”
Select Board Chair Chuck Costello praised the decision. “Captain Paglia’s dedication to Boxford is clear, and we’re proud to support his continued leadership in this new role. His promotion reflects his integrity, professionalism, and deep understanding of our community.”
Town Administrator Matt Coogan added, “Captain Paglia has earned the trust and respect of his fellow officers, town leadership, and residents alike. His steady presence, thoughtful leadership, and deep commitment to public service have been an asset to Boxford for many years.” ♦
