CANDIDATE STATEMENT: Maura Mastrogiovanni for Rowley Board of Selectmen

Wednesday April 30, 2025

My name is Maura Mastrogiovanni, and I would like to thank everyone who supported my nomination to run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen this year.  I believe I have the qualifications needed to work collaboratively on the challenges facing Rowley.

This June marks 37 years since my husband Jeffrey and I moved to Rowley. We have enjoyed setting down roots and raising our children here.  The natural beauty of our area, the Great Marsh, as well as our proximity to cultural, entertainment and outdoor recreational activities continue to make living here satisfying.  But it’s Rowley’s character and people that make it home.

Since moving to Rowley, I have been interested in town issues and governance. I served on the Board of Library Trustees for two terms (1998-2004) during which we secured funding for our new library on Main Street.  I participated in grant writing, helped incorporate the Friends of the Library as a non-profit organization, and presented the funding needs to the town. I also served as Vice Chair of the Library Building Committee through the complete project (2000 – 2004), from architect selection and construction to the grand opening.  I have worked as an election worker for the town since 2020. I value the election process and assisting our residents in exercising their right to vote.

Additionally, I worked as Office Manager at The Trustees of Reservations, Appleton Farms property for ten years and as Office Manager at Benjamin Nutter Architects for five. In these positions, I was responsible for managing quarter million-dollar budgets, procurement, invoicing, and numerous client contracts among other tasks. More importantly I am a detail-oriented person willing to do the work needed to bring worthwhile ideas into reality.

Rowley faces many important issues such as the 3A mandate and the annual increases in the school budget. These issues directly affect the finances and the culture of our town. I value discussing issues with people of varying views and experiences and working together toward consensus when problem solving. If elected, I will work collaboratively with Select Board members, in addition to other town boards and committees to provide the best possible public services for our citizens. Preserving the traditions of Rowley while accommodating the changes we face is a challenge for all of us.  I will proactively and cooperatively work towards solving these challenges.

As a member of the Board of Selectmen, I pledge to educate myself on the issues before the board, and to listen and discuss them openly with concerned citizens. I will work towards the best solutions for Rowley.

Please consider voting for me at our town election on May 13, 2025.

Sincerely,

Maura Mastrogiovanni
