Hampton United Methodist Women to Host Pontine Theatre’s Robert Frost’s New Hampshire

Hampton, NH: Hampton United Methodist Women welcome the community to enjoy Pontine Theatre’s premiere of Robert Frost’s New Hampshire on Wednesday, April 10th, 7:00 PM at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, in Carter Hall, located on the first floor of the church.
Pontine Co-Artistic Directors, Greg Gathers & Marguerite Mathews, will perform their original two-person staging of three early poems by Robert Frost: The Hill Wife, Wild Grapes, The Witch of Coos. Frost was a long-time summer resident of Derry and Franconia NH. Frost’s first of four Pulitzer Prizes was awarded in 1924 for his volume: “New Hampshire: A Poem with Notes and Grace Notes.” Known for his New England settings, his down to earth, stark depictions of the difficulties of rural farm life, and his use of colloquial speech, Robert Frost is widely admired as a true American Master.
Harriet Munroe, publisher, and editor of “Poetry,” wrote that “perhaps no other poet in our history has put the best of the Yankee spirit into a book so completely.” She notes that while Frost’s narrative, character-based poems are often dark and satirical, Frost always has a “sympathetic humor” towards his subjects. This production is supported by grants from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Hampton United Methodist Church (HUMC) is proud of the vital role it plays in the community. Its outreach and mission work extends throughout the Seacoast and beyond. Locally, it provides space for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-Anon meetings, as well as Meals on Wheels, and its food pantry is open every Wednesday. HUMC is also an active partner with Seacoast Family Promise www.seacoastfamilypromise.org, a non-profit agency that helps in guiding families who are experiencing homelessness toward stabilized housing.
All are welcome to worship at the church at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings. As is the tradition in the United Methodist Church, holy communion is held on the first Sunday of each month. HUMC also offers a Sunday School program and nursery care.
