Parks Director Reid Takes State Job

NEWBURYPORT — Former Parks Director Lise Reid has taken a new job with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), according to two sources.
DCR manages state parks and oversees more than 450,000 acres throughout Massachusetts. It protects, promotes and enhances the state’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources.
Reid, who begins work at DCR Tuesday, was fired last summer by Mayor Sean Reardon as part of a proposed restructuring of the city parks department. She had worked for the city for 16 years.
The mayor’s restructuring proposal to transfer maintenance of the city’s 26 parks to the Department of Public Works was put on hold last September when it ran into opposition from several members of the City Council. Reardon said recently that he plans to reintroduce the restructuring proposal early this year.
