Saving Historic Castle Hill

IPSWICH — The Great House at Castle Hill is about to receive a makeover, thanks to a grant of nearly $500,000 from the National Park Service (NPS) and partner agencies.

The grant money will pay for critical masonry repairs to stop the water infiltration damage that threatens the integrity of the national historic landmark.

Under NPS’ Save America’s Treasures program, the federal agency partnered with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.

NPS director Chuck Sams said, “Through private and public investments, the Save America’s Treasures program supports community-based preservation and conservation work on some of our nation’s most important collections, artifacts, structures and sites for the benefit of future generations.”

Funded through the Historic Preservation Fund, Save America’s Treasures has provided $356 million to more than 1,300 projects between 1999 and 2020.
