John Franklin Donahoe

Wednesday November 04, 2026

John Franklin Donahoe 75, formerly of Weymouth and Kingston passed away unexpectedly at his home in Rowley on October 21. He was the beloved son of the late Robert E and Lillian F (Hill)Donahoe who called him Jackie.

We knew him as Jack, Dad and Ampa. Jack is survived by his devoted wife Rita (Fontana), cherished children Sarah Eastman and John (Julie) Donahoe and adored grandchildren, Megan and Eve Eastman and Logan and Hannah Donahoe. He also leaves his loving siblings Robert (Diane), Gail, Pau l(Maggie) Donahoe and Claire MacDonald and nieces and nephews Brianne (Colin)McGree, Sean (Uwyn) Donahoe, Amanda and Andrew MacDonald and grandnieces and nephew Ellery and Jocelyn McGree and Julian MacDonald.

Jack attended Bridgewater State College, Suffolk University and received a master’s in criminal justice from Anna Maria College. After serving as a police officer, he also taught Criminal Justice for Quincy College. Jack and Rita relocated to the North Shore to be close to their children and grandchildren. During this time, they enjoyed countless travel adventures to many historical sites here and abroad with Italy, Ireland, and Prague being his favorite.

As a congregant of St. Joseph’s in Kingston, Massachusetts, Jack started a men’s softball league there, was involved with the PreCana Program, and participated in mission work in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake. He helped rebuild an orphanage, drawing on his EMT experience and building skills. His craftsmanship lives on there and in the many benches, stools, and tables he made for his family and friends.

Jack’s legacy lives on through his family. They were his world, his pride and joy. He will be remembered for his faith, devotion to his family, quick wit, passion for history, ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and dedication to serving others. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be pledged to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Fisher House™ Foundation, Inc.
