Deer Hunting Season is Already Underway in
Massachusetts
by Kay Lee Ogden
This fine gentleman of North Street in Georgetown, Fred Bodenrader is preparing himself for a hunting trip, on this gorgeous day in Oct.
Dressed in his feathered hat of faux leaves, he’s ready for the hunt! Fred amazes me at the young age of 82, he climbs 20 feet in the trees to position himself for the best shot!
This is a reminder that hunting season is open, tell your youngsters to be aware, and wear bright orange, if they venture into the woods!
Archery: open now – October 5–November 28
Shotgun: November 30–December 12
Primitive firearms/muzzleloader: December 14–31
These dates apply around Georgetown, Haverhill, and Newburyport, too.
There’s also a winter deer season January 1–30, 2027, in Zones 9, 10, and 11.
If you are walking near hunting areas,
wear bright orange and put an orange vest on your pets!
