NEWBURYPORT – YWCA Greater Newburyport is excited to announce that they’ve received a multi-year grant from the Cummings Foundation for the second time.

This grant will strengthen the YWCA’s capacity to deliver integrated programs, including affordable housing, childcare, wellness, and support services.

The grant also supports the YWCA in responding to the interconnected challenges facing low- and moderate–income families, seniors, and vulnerable populations across the North Shore region. “A huge thank you to the Cummings Foundation for their extreme generosity, and for supporting YWCA Greater Newburyport – together, we can do extraordinary things,” said Dr. Kate Slater, CEO, YWCA Greater Newburyport.

The YWCA Greater Newburyport currently provides more than 100 units of supportive housing for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, including a brand-new facility in Methuen where residents benefit from seamless connections to Element Care’s nationally recognized PACE program (which provides medical care for seniors 55+).

The YWCA is also thrilled about their new collaboration with Element Care at 13 Market Street in Newburyport, which will provide a dedicated day PACE program as well as physical therapy to seniors in need.

Additionally, the YWCA Childcare Center remains one of the only facility in the region that accepts state vouchers and offers tuition discounts, along with affordable after school child-care and youth services, anti-racism education and community engagement. Finally, the YWCA Encore program offers a free holistic survivorship program providing targeted health and wellness programs for cancer survivors and thrivers and access to peer support.

“Our work at the YWCA is absolutely critical during a time when social supports and safety nets are falling apart,” said Dr. Kate Slater, “so funding for our day-to-day operations from organizations like the Cummings Foundation is more urgent than ever. We’re so grateful for the ways that the Cummings Foundation invests in our community and in the work of the YWCA.”

YWCA Greater Newburyport is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and creating peace, justice dignity and freedom for all.
