Pop-up Book Club: Lincoln in the Bardo Tuesday June 16, 6-7 PM. Join us for a pop-up book club to discuss George Saunders’ Lincoln in the Bardo. Winner of the 2017 Booker Prize, one of The New York Times’ 100 Best Books of the 21st Century, one of The Atlantic’s Great American Novels of the Past 100 Years, one of Paste’s Best Novels of the Decade. Also named one of the ten best books of the year by The Washington Post, USA Today, and O: The Oprah Magazine. “The book, mainly set in a Washington DC graveyard, tells the story of the hours after Willie Lincoln’s funeral from the perspective of the graveyard residents.” Let’s get together and see what we can make of this unusual story which blends novel, historical fiction, experimental literature, magical realism, and biographical fiction. Hardcover copies will be available at the Library, or request your copy from the MVLC catalog. There are eBook and eAudio versions as well, the audio features a full cast of 166 and has also won awards.
Virtual: Celebrating America’s 250th “Boston, 1776” with Author J.D. Dickey Monday, June 22 from 7-8 PM
We are so pleased to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and who would be better to kick it off than author J.D. Dickey discussing his book, “Boston, 1776: A Rogue Tour of Revolution City”. Relive the chaos, courage, and color of the American Revolution’s capital city while meeting those who led the fight in the nation’s War of Independence. We hope you can join us for this fascinating conversation! This program is hosted by the Ashland Public Library in coordination with many other area libraries. Sponsored in part by the Friends of the West Newbury Library. RSVP for the link to the discussion.
