NEWBURYPORT — The Essex Ensemble will perform at the Maudslay Arts Center on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. to raise money for the First Parish Newbury Food Pantry.
The group is directed by local resident, acclaimed musician and pantry volunteer Andrew Price and includes musicians from several Boston orchestras.
The First Parish Newbury Food Pantry serves more than 800 people each week in Newbury, Newburyport, Byfield, West Newbury, Salisbury, Rowley, Ipswich, and Georgetown. It is the largest all-volunteer food pantry in the area.
Reserved table seats for the concert are $50 per person, and lawn tickets are $30. Children under 12 are free. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Limited parking is available at the arts center for vehicles with handicapped stickers. All others should park in the main Maudslay State Park lot.
Tickets are available at www.newburyfoodpantry.org/events or at https://FoodPantryConcert.eventbrite.com.
In other pantry news, Newburyport Boy Scout Troop members handed out 50 emergency kits to guests during food pickup on Aug. 1. Kits included water, a flashlight, soap, candles, matches and other supplies.
Being the growing season, the pantry saw an increase in the number of bags of fresh vegetables distributed in July, averaging 1,351 bags per week compared to 1,294 in June. ♦
