GEORGETOWN – With the Red Sox in the thick of the playoff picture, the Georgetown Senior Center, 51 North St., is hosting a free Musical Baseball Show by local singer-songwriter (and former sportswriter) Howie Newman on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 p.m.
The show is open to all seniors in the greater Georgetown area. Registration is encouraged; call 978-352-5726 to reserve a spot.
Newman, a former sportswriter for the Patriot Ledger, Lowell Sun, Boston Globe, Associated Press and several other publications, covered the Red Sox for many years and has also remained an avid fan, having visited 104 major and minor league ballparks. He will sing baseball songs, offer up baseball trivia and talk about his days on the Bosox beat.
In addition, there will be a display of his personal baseball memorabilia and a free raffle for one of his baseball CDs.
“Baseball is the one sport that really lends itself to music,” said Newman, whose experience also includes three years of radio color commentary for the Lowell Spinners, a former Red Sox farm team. “I’ll be playing my own baseball songs and some other tunes that everyone knows. We’ll talk baseball, do some trivia and just have fun.
“It’s going to be a unique, interactive type of show and I’m sure folks will enjoy it.”
