Wednesday July 09, 2025

Virginia Ann (Iglehart) Kent of Rowley, Mass., passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, with family by her side. She was the devoted wife of Donald L. Kent.

Born on June 21, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, she was raised in Portsmouth and Norfolk, VA, by her late mother, Mary Virginia Hansen, and stepfather, the late Arthur J. Hansen, Jr.

Ann graduated from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA. While a student there, she was President of the
Virginia Student Nurses’ Association.

She was head nurse on a Medical-Surgical Unit at DePaul until she married and moved to Rowley in 1957. While raising her family, Ann worked with her husband and sons at Rowley Printing, Inc., the family-owned business. She later worked as a medical-surgical nurse and Case Manager on the Oncology Unit at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen until she retired.

Ann enjoyed lunches at the Newburyport waterfront with her husband. She spent many days on the family houseboat inside Sandy Point. With Anne Murray playing in the background, Ann always welcomed friends and family into their home, offering sweet treats and ice cream.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Ann is survived by five loving children: John Kent (wife, Louise), Donna Twombly (husband, Bret), David Kent (wife, Marie), Sharon Cone (husband, Dale), and Mary Cierpich (husband, Mark).

She cherished ten grandchildren: Sara Twombly, Michelle Lojko (husband, Mark), Matthew Cone, Ryan Kent, Mitchell Cone, Michael Cone, Tyler Cierpich, Alyssa Kent, Julia Cierpich, and Annelise Cone. She also adored one great-grandchild, Ellis Lojko.

She was the sister of John Hansen, and his late wife, Mary Ann, of Portsmouth, VA (nieces, Cheryl and Cathie); Michael Hansen of Midlothian, VA; David Hansen of Chesterfield, VA (niece, Ginger); and adopted brother George Wakefield of Midlothian, VA.

Relatives and Friends will gather for a Funeral Mass on July 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of 42 Green Street in Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers, donation pledges in Ann’s memory may be made to Rowley Volunteer Fire Protection Association.
