REGIONAL – A 23-year-old institution, the Greater Newburyport Adult and Community Education has opened online registration for spring classes, which run from April 26 through June 17. Classes range from one-night workshops to a full eight-week semester.
The program offers more than 50 different classes, including ones that explain bitcoin and crypto currency, mandala dot rock painting and oyster shell decoupage. There are also courses in backyard farming, tap dancing, aquatic mammal tracking, archery, hiking, travel writing, decluttering your digital photos and gentle restorative yoga.
If none of these appeal? Try Tai Ch or learn drawing, bridge, cribbage or watercolor painting. You may try learning how to develop your psychic sense, Japanese bookbinding, personal cybersecurity or enneagram.
For most humans who do not know what enneagram is, we looked it up. It is a personality typing system that describes people in terms of nine interconnected personality types, each with unique motivations, fears and behaviors. It is used for self-understanding and relationship improvement.
Catalogues are being mailed to local mailboxe, but registration can be completed online at newburyportadulted.org.. All classes have a maximum number of students, and many fill up quickly.
A six-week Math and SAT Prep course will begin on April 28 at Newburyport High School for college-bound juniors and seniors.
Students do not need to live in Newburyport to enroll. Beginning April 29, the Nock Middle School will also offer weekly English classes (ESL) for non-English speaking individuals on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7p.m.
All classes are open to anyone aged 15 or over in the Greater Newburyport region and southern New Hampshire
Despite being a part of the Newburyport Public School system, the program’s budget is primarily funded through course fees. Grants and individual donations also supplement the budget.
