Newbury Police and Fire Clear Scene of Reported of Explosive Device at Pearson Plaza

NEWBURY – Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. Newbury Police and Fire responded to a commercial building located in front of Pearson Plaza, Byfield, for a report of a suspicious item,  possibly a tampered-with firework or pipe bomb, which was located on the ground in the parking lot outside of the building. Newbury Police and Fire notified the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad and immediately evacuated the building and secured the area.

The item was removed from the area and brought to Massachusetts Wildlife’s Martin H. Burns Wildlife Management Area in Newbury, where it was destroyed out of an abundance of caution.
