The Pink House – Federal Government’s Planned Demolition by Decay

Thursday February 20, 2025

Almost Gone … ?  The Iconic Pink House – with most windows and most roofing materials removed this fall – sits battered yet still holding her own last Saturday, bracing for another punishing winter storm (the home got hit with 8 inches of wet driving snow on Sunday night). The house has been undergoing advanced demolition-by-decay under the ‘care’ of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The feds latest step to remove the protective shingles and windows apparently has allowed extensive water intrusions into the nearly 100-year-old gal, a famous landmark for lifetimes on the road to Plum Island. Support the Pink House (Support the Pink House, Inc. 61 Pleasant Street, PO BOX 131, Newburyport, MA  01950 – website www.supportthepinkhouse.com) continues their efforts to try to get the feds to release their grip on property and allow locals to restore it to its prior splendor on the marsh.  (Photo: Lonnie Brennan)
