SALISBURY – The Salisbury Historical Society is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a $2,500 grant on December 13, 2024, from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its Festival and Projects 2025 program. This grant will support the Society’s upcoming “Scenes of Salisbury Traveling Quilt Show,” a mobile exhibition of a cherished 1978 quilt that celebrates Salisbury’s rich history.
The quilt, handcrafted by 31 women of the East Parish Methodist Church in 1978, features 42 intricately embroidered squares, each depicting a unique scene or event integral to Salisbury’s heritage. It has been a treasured part of the Society’s collection since its founding that same year.
With this grant, the Salisbury Historical Society will bring this remarkable artifact to life by displaying it at various community venues. This traveling exhibit will provide residents and visitors alike the opportunity to connect with Salisbury’s history, as told through the quilt’s vivid and meticulously detailed squares.
The Salisbury Historical Society extends its gratitude to the Mass Cultural Council for its generous support, which enables this meaningful project to foster community engagement and appreciation for local history.
