Love your Garden and Love the Environment

Plant Sale on May 20 from 8:30 to 11:30
WEST NEWBURY – Plant lovers in our area know that the West Newbury Garden Club’s annual plant sale is one that simply cannot be missed. And, while we will still be offering a huge selection of sun and shade perennials for the sale, in response to the tremendous interest in native plants, the Club has purchased several hundred natives guaranteed to attract pollinators to your garden. These natives will join other native favorites dug from member’s gardens such as Ostrich Fern, May Apple, and Canadian ginger.
Garden enthusiasts realize that one important contribution they can make to the health of our environment is to provide plants that encourage birds and insects to visit our area in order to source the food they need, simultaneously pollinating plants that ensure a healthy landscape.
You may not wish to re-configure your entire garden, but you can always add a few of these many colorful and vital plants. If you are currently designing a garden, why not make a real difference to your community by having a section devoted to natives?
In selecting its offerings, the Club has paid careful attention to flowering periods, ensuring bloom throughout the gardening season, and is providing plants suitable for shade, partial sun, and full sun. Club members, knowledgeable about the plants’ optimum growing conditions, will be on site to help you make your choices.
Among the many plants available will be varieties of Bee Balm, Blazing Star, Asters, Milkweed, Ginger, Lobelia, Goldenrod, Foam Flower, Bergamot, Coreopsis, Turtle Weed, and Columbine.
You will also finds shrubs and trees for sale, such as Highbush Blueberry, Nannyberry, Common Spice, and St. John’s Wort.
When you purchase a native, you will not only improve the environment, you will also contribute to the West Newbury Garden Club’s scholarship fund. Due to the great success of last year’s plant sale, the Club is offering two $3,000 scholarships to students who will or are studying college majors related to the environment. A win—win—win.
