Letter to the Editor: Turmoil in Georgetown

Tuesday February 07, 2023

Georgetown residents recently learned of serious tension between our town administrator and the long time agent for the Conservation Commission. A commission member told the Town Common she feared for the agent’s health. The agent recently resigned but it doesn’t appear that will be the end of the matter.
Continuing an ugly battle won’t benefit the town, or the former employee. It can get very expensive for the taxpayers, as we learned following the high school football incident. In that matter, rather than mediate, as in actually sitting down and talking with the other side, our leaders chose to battle it out with an investigation and lawyers. After $150,000 spent on lawyers, the lawyers are up $150,000 and the taxpayers are down $150,000!
Finally, our town employees are our treasure. I’ve found them to be professional, hardworking, and courteous. Let’s foster a civil and pleasant workplace.
So please, town leaders, take the sensible approach.
