Lawrence General Hospital Awarded From Fema For Covid Expenses

BOSTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending nearly $7 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse Lawrence General Hospital for the additional costs of operating safely and handling more patients during the coronavirus pandemic between February 2020 and July 2021.

The hospital will receive $6,975,416 in federal funding to cover the cost of buying additional emergency medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment, and disinfection/sanitizing supplies; renting equipment such as IV pumps; and contracting for additional security staff, temporary housekeepers, medical staff and physicians.

“FEMA is pleased to be able to assist Lawrence General Hospital with these costs,” said FEMA Region I Acting Regional Administrator Paul Ford. “Providing resources for our partners on the front lines of the pandemic fight is critical to their success, and our success as a nation.”

FEMA’s Public Assistance program is an essential source of funding for states and communities recovering from a federally declared disaster or emergency.

So far, FEMA has provided nearly $769 million in Public Assistance grants to Massachusetts to reimburse the commonwealth for pandemic-related expenses.
