Join the library on Thursday, November 4 at 6:30pm to discuss On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, a NYT bestseller and winner of the New England Book Award for Fiction.
A young man is writing a letter to his mother who cannot read. In it he reflects on the path his life has taken. He grew up a lonely child, bullied for being different, but found brief happiness in a teenage affair with the grandson of the man who owns the tobacco barns where he works. As he reveals secrets to his mother he knows she’ll never read, we piece together his family history: his grandmother’s grief after the fall of Saigon, his mother’s life with an abusive man, and their struggles as refugees in America, in this raw portrait of a family, first love, and survival.
The library will have copies of the book available. Call or stop by to pick one up. For more information, call the library at 978-948-2850, or email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up.
