Local students graduate from Bates College

LEWISTON, ME Bates College graduated 469 students from 38 states and 43 countries on May 27, 2021 in an historic double ceremony allowing for social distancing among the graduates and their guests.

Alex Brovender, of Boxford graduated after majoring in physics and minoring in mathematics and digital and computational studies. Brovender is a 2017 graduate of Masconomet Regional High School. He was inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.

Elizabeth Cullen, of Newburyport, graduated after majoring in mathematics and economics and minoring in digital and computational studies at Bates. Cullen, the daughter of Michael E. Cullen and Eileen A. Cullen is a 2017 graduate of Newburyport High School. Cullen was inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.

Alexander Berzansky, of Newbury graduated after majoring in chemistry and minoring in Asian studies at Bates. Berzansky, the son of Stephen S. Berzansky Jr. and Mary F. Berzansky, is a 2017 graduate of The Governor’s Academy.

Liam Spillane, of Byfield graduated after majoring in politics at Bates. Spillane, the son of Thomas J. Spillane and Kristin M. Spillane, is a 2017 graduate of Triton Regional High School.

Joshua Gendron, of Haverhill graduated after majoring in economics at Bates. Gendron, the son of Thomas Gendron and Virginia Gendron, is a 2017 graduate of Haverhill High School.
