Newburyport Library Celebrates Yankee Homecoming

The Newburyport Public Library welcomes people back into our program room for the following in-person programs celebrating Yankee Homecoming!

Saturday, July 31st at 11:00 AM: Newburyport’s Clipper Heritage Trail. Join author and historian Ghlee Woodworth and enjoy a visual tour of over 80 images of old Newburyport from her 2020 book “Newburyport’s Clipper Heritage Trail Part I”. The book includes 15 self-guided tours, over 150 locations, 200 images, and 25 maps. “The Clipper Heritage Trail” is an American Association of State and Local History merit award winner. “Newburyport’s Clipper Heritage Trail Part II” is due out in 2022.

Monday, August 2nd at 6:00 PM: The Merrimack: the Resilient River. Author-journalist Dyke Hendrickson will talk about the history and health of the Merrimack River. Hendrickson will address the past and future of this great resource. He is the author of the new book, “Merrimack: The Resilient River, An Illustrated Profile of the Most Historic River in New England.”

Wednesday, August 4th at 6:00 PM: A Newburyport Travelogue. Stories of Newburyport can be found in faraway lands like London, the Caribbean, Chile, Oregon, California, Bermuda, and Hawaii. With local historian Jack Santos as your guide, learn about Newburyport’s connections to the world. Find out how you can be a global Newburyport history explorer – far from Market Square!
