Those who have served in the military are being treated to a free meal, for themselves and their families, in observance of Independence Day courtesy of Eastern Essex Veterans Services. On Saturday, July 3rd, 2021, the Eastern Essex Veterans Services will be serving vegetable primavera with chicken, plus a side salad and dessert. “On Independence Day, we as a community show our gratitude for all our men and women who took an oath to defend our freedom,” said Karen Tyler, Director of Veterans Services for the Eastern Essex District. This meal delivery is an excellent way for the community to come together and show their appreciation while also serving a delicious meal, according to Tyler who also served in the United States Army.
Registration in advance is required, and meal requests are exclusive to Georgetown, Rowley, Newbury, and West Newbury. To sign up for delivery, call the Eastern Essex Veterans Services office at 978-356-6699. All meals will be prepared and delivered from Pita Hall on Plum Island. Deliveries will be from 2 pm – 4 pm. To register, you will need to provide your name, address, number of meals being requested, and best contact phone number. All meals will be delivered using contactless delivery. A notification will be made by text or phone call only after the meal is delivered. Sign up deadline is Thursday June 24 no later than 4 pm.
To help carry out the meal delivery, volunteers will be needed. Those who are interested in volunteering, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Eastern Essex Veterans Services at 978-356-6699. The Newburyport Bank is sponsoring this event. “Events and tributes like this are never possible without the support from the community and local businesses. Our office is always extremely grateful for all of those who support our men and women who have worn the cloth of our Nation,” adds Karen Tyler.
