The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association survived one of the toughest years in its 120-year history. Your support never wavered, even when we had to close. We are so grateful.
Now I am asking for your kindness once again as we continue our recovery. We know that people are excited to visit and return — to climb our famed secret staircase, stroll through the idyllic colonial revival gardens, and reconnect with our varied and compelling stories. With your continued support we can welcome everyone back for a safe and enjoyable visit.
Your support will also allow us to resume English language learning and citizenship classes that are so intrinsically integral to our mission. This year we are thrilled to partner with the Peabody Essex Museum. PEM is graciously providing much-needed space for Gables’ instructors to teach adult English language learners throughout the spring and summer.
Your gift today will enable The Gables to resume vital programs and complete critical projects. Because of your help over the past several years, we have been able to seal the exterior envelopes of our historic structures. We have replaced roofs, restored windows, and completed painting. We now turn our focus to upgrading our aging systems infrastructure. This is all part of a 20-year campus plan that includes safeguarding our site by upgrading and implementing fire detection, security, and electrical systems to ensure that The Gables will be here for generations to come.
In addition to the work inside this National Historic Landmark District, your contribution will help make necessary landscape improvements around the perimeter of the campus. We plan to replace unhealthy invasive trees with a species that is more site appropriate, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, safe for all our visitors and neighbors.

It is hard to believe that just over one year ago the pandemic changed every aspect of our lives, but the beginning of spring provides a sense of hope that better days are ahead. At The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association, the staff is preparing for one of our most important seasons as we focus on our recovery and renewal.
