Beverly – Like most performing arts venues, The Cabot in Beverly has struggled during the 2020-2021 pandemic but was determined to not only survive, but thrive. Exploring new and creative ways to bring all forms of artistic expression to its audiences included holding reduced capacity outdoor concerts at Hale Farm, and holding virtual fundraisers and creating new revenue streams were critical to The Cabot’s continuing success. One idea born in 2020 was creating an on-demand platform: Cabot To-Go.
Similar to most other movie streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, or Apple TV, and with the technology support from Shift72, Cabot To-Go offers dozens of new and classic films to be rented on-demand – however unlike similar platforms, a member subscription is not required. Each film will be available as an on-demand rental – all in support of the 100 year old historic North Shore theater.
“Over our long history, one of the essential pieces of The Cabot is the wealth of films we offer to our audiences, and creating an online platform was a logical extension of that, especially while we’re in these pandemic times, where we’re finding many are not ready to come back to the theater yet,” said J. Casey Soward, Executive Director of The Cabot. “Now you will be able to take the magic of our movies with you wherever you go!”
Films are purchased via the website and then can be watched on a computer or via the iOS, Android, Roku or Amazon Fire apps. Upon purchase, viewers will have a 48-hour viewing window to watch. New films will be continually added. Cabot To-Go can be checked out at streaming.thecabot.org.
