Salisbury – Given the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding between the Salisbury and Amesbury Lions Clubs, Amesbury honored Salisbury Lions’ request to support the Town of Salisbury’s 2022 Beach Fire Fund. In doing so, the Amesbury Lions made a donation of $3000 from its treasury with an additional $880 donated individually by its members, making for a total of $3880 in relief funding.
The donation was presented by the Amesbury Lions Club Secretary Marie Velliex to the Town of Salisbury’s Treasurer’s Office on February 17, thirty-days after the fire from which 24 families were displaced by the massive nine-alarm blaze. Hurricane force winds fanned the flames destroying all 12 apartments in Michael’s Oceanfront Motel, along with three multi-family homes. More than 100 firefighters had responded to the scene and contained the fire before it spread any further. A total of 36 people were displaced for which the Town’s fund was arranged to support.
As one witness of the horrific event sadly said, “It’s devastating to rebuild your life; a home fire is your own personal major disaster. Everything changes.”
