Message from the Select Board
WEST NEWBURY, Mass. – The Select Board has decided that we will not have a Special Town Meeting this fall.
The Annual Town Meeting is where the business of the Town is meant to be conducted, with Special Town Meetings only called when items arise that were unanticipated and which can not wait until the Annual Town Meeting in April.
Over the last several years, we started holding Town Meetings in the fall as routine even when the items weren’t urgent. It’s expensive to have Town Meetings and if the articles aren’t urgent it’s a waste of taxpayer money. We are therefore planning on returning to the way Town Meetings were historically managed and focus on the Annual Town Meeting in the spring. ♦
