GEORGETOWN — Georgetown Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Mike Donahue announced this week that an interim solution is now in place at American Legion Park on Pentucket Pond, restoring usable public docks for both swimming and fishing.
Parks and Recreation Commission successfully worked with Peter Durkee and the Georgetown Highway Department in combining sections of the existing older docks with the newly purchased smaller docks to create separate, functional areas for swimmers and anglers. The interim configuration went into effect this past week.
“I want to publicly thank Peter Durkee and the entire Highway Department for their practical expertise and willingness to roll up their sleeves,” said Donahue. “Peter’s knowledge of the materials, measurements, and on-the-ground conditions made it possible to put together a safe, usable solution quickly and at minimal impact to the taxpayers. This is a great example of town departments working together for the community.”
Donahue also expressed appreciation to the local Boy Scouts who assisted with assembly of the new dock components purchased by the Town.
“On behalf of the Parks and Recreation Commission, I want to thank the budding Eagle Scout who stepped up to help assemble the new docks,” Donahue said. “The Scouts hard work and community spirit made a real difference, and we are grateful for their contribution to improving this important public space.”
Officials will continue to monitor the setup and explore longer-term options as needed.
