Georgetown Municipal Light Department (GMLD) received an American Public Power Association (APPA) E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award during APPA’s National Conference held recently in Boston. The award honors APPA member systems that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service.

GMLD has demonstrated unwavering commitment to reliable, affordable, and sustainable power delivery for its approximately 3,500 customers. The utility’s “Georgetown Goes Green” program has helped customers reduce costs and energy use through rebates for appliances, weatherization, and home energy audits.
In 2024, APPA recognized Georgetown with its prestigious RP3 Diamond designation, which acknowledges a utility’s dedication to operating an efficient, safe, reliable distribution system. The RP3 program is based on industry-recognized leading practices in four disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. ’s commitment to supporting all of public power is demonstrated in its strong support for storm restoration, deploying mutual aid crews across New England, Florida, Georgia, and the Virgin Islands; and in actively engaging with policymakers on key issues such as grid reliability, clean energy, and infrastructure. ♦
