BOXFORD – The Town of Boxford proudly reveals the official names for its snowplow trucks, creatively selected by the students of the town’s elementary schools. This initiative, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works (DPW), engaged the Harry Lee Cole Elementary School and Spofford Pond Elementary School students in naming the plow trucks for the winter season.

Students from Kindergarten through 2nd grade at Cole School chose the names Snowball, Rudolph, and Snowy. Cole School Principal Lisa Salisbury remarked, “It was inspiring to see our youngest students take part in this process. Their creativity and excitement were truly heartwarming.”

At Spofford Pond School, students in grades 3 through 6 named their plows Blizzard of Oz, Mr. Slushie, and Sir Plow-a-Lot. Spofford School Interim Principal Amanda Sullivan praised the students’ creativity, saying, “Our students displayed remarkable imagination in naming the plow trucks, and we are so proud of their choices.”

DPW Superintendent and Town Engineer Chris Olbrot expressed his excitement: “Collaborating with our local schools has been an incredible experience. Our DPW team is eager to showcase these fun names as we work to keep our roads safe during snowstorms.”

Town Administrator Matt Coogan added, “It’s a great partnership and a way to recognize the hard work of our DPW team. They are a critical part of the town’s team of first responders, and their work is often behind the scenes.”

Superintendent of Schools Scott Morrison emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “This project highlights the positive partnership between the Town of Boxford and our schools. Engaging students in this way fosters a sense of civic pride and community participation.”

The DPW will soon brand the plow trucks with their new names, ensuring they are proudly displayed throughout the winter season.  ♦
