Dear Community Leaders and Supporters,
On behalf of myself, Imagine Studios and Newburyport Indigenous People’s Day, a huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, donated or supported in any way! This year’s event was a great success on many levels, building and strengthening relationships and partnerships between Indigenous and community members and organizations, while learning and allying together to commemorate and celebrate Indigenous People’s Day! Although we faced challenges of weather, we were greatly warmed by everyone’s sunny smiles, camaraderie and passionate presentations!! Thanks to you we were able to raise invaluable awareness and support for regional Indigenous participants, organizations and advocacy issues.
We also are grateful to the city of Newburyport, Mayor Sean Reardon, Geordie Vining and Andy Port for their ongoing support in creating an Indigenous People’s Place commemorative and gathering site at Newburyport’s new waterfront park. Mayor Reardon has established a new fund at the Newburyport Bank to begin to receive donations towards this long term project, which we hope will commence in the near year, in collaboration with regional Indigenous consultants and artisans!! If you’d like to support this project or next year’s event in any way please contact us.
We plan to hold a flag raising ceremony at city hall again this November in honor of Native American heritage Month with Mayor Reardon and local Native and allied reps. Please stay tuned for date and time TBA
Much Gratitude,
Kristine and the IPD team
