Georgetown Fire Department Responds to Back to Back Emergency Calls, Fires

GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department have responded to multiple calls this weekend, including a medical call in the forest followed by two simultaneous fires on Saturday night.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, at approximately 6:18 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department responded to a medical aid call at a residence approximately 600 feet from the road off Andover Street. Companies secured and transported a patient to Lawrence General Hospital with assistance from police and Atlantic Ambulance.
At approximately 7:19 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department was called to a fire at a home on Warren Street. The fire was contained to the chimney, but companies had to vent heavy smoke from the home. Georgetown Engine 2 was supported on Warren Street by mutual aid from the Groveland and West Newbury Fire Departments.
At 7:37 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department was called to an electrical fire in a dryer inside a home on Marlboro Road. A homeowner used a fire extinguisher to suppress the flames before companies arrived. Crews checked for extension and found only minor damage to the home.
Georgetown Engine 1 was supported on Marlboro Road by mutual aid from the Newburyport, Rowley, and Newbury Fire Departments.
No injuries were reported in either incident. Residents were able to remain in their homes after the fires were out.
Firefighters from Boxford, Haverhill and Topsfield covered Georgetown stations while the incidents were ongoing.
Additionally, companies responded to another dryer fire on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 10:18 a.m.. In that incident, a dryer caught fire at a home on Searle Street. A homeowner had that fire extinguished by the time companies arrived. Damage was contained to the dryer.
Chief McKay reminds homeowners to make sure they have their chimneys cleaned and inspected annually.
“I’m proud our firefighters’ response as they were called to a medical call, chimney fire, and dryer fire in rapid succession,” said Chief McKay. “As always, I’m also grateful to the mutual aid companies that assisted us as we responded.”
