GEORGETOWN – The shelves were getting low, stock dwindling, then a call went out for help, “and, a miracle occurred.”
People Helping People, based at Saint Mary’s Church on Andover Street provides a vital food pantry for the greater Rowley, Georgetown, Boxford, and Byfield communities.
Recently, members of the Georgetown Rene J. Gagnon American Legion Post 211 again visited the pantry, housed in the lower level of St. Mary’s Rectory, where they presented a check to Jeanne Soucy and Debbie Parisi, co-directors of the program which for many, many years, has provided a helping hand in many ways to families, and those who have fallen on difficult times.
Each year, members of the Frank Meader, Jr. Knights of Columbus Council 6064 gather to help distribute boxes and boxes of food and special gifts to a growing number of households in the service area, with members coming together before Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter to ensure each household has multiple boxes of food, staples, and gifts.
The list of American Legion and Knights members is extensive, as is the list of all those in the St. Mary’s Church community who give of their time and treasure to keep this program strong.
You can help! Checks can be sent to People Helping People c/o St. Mary’s Church, 94 Andover St, Georgetown, MA 01833.
