NEWBURYPORT – YWCA Greater Newburyport is pleased to announce that construction has progressed far enough on our newest affordable housing program and hosted a “Topping Off” ceremony, March 3 at 1:00 at YWCA Residences at Ingalls Court II, 12 Ingalls Court, Methuen.
A “Topping Off” ceremony is an opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of the workers who have successfully brought the building to this point of construction.
YWCA is fortunate to work with the architects at ICON, LD Russo and all the sub-contractors who are making this project come to life. This has been an exceptionally cold winter, and these workers have toiled while exposed to the harsh elements this season has thrown at them. They are thrilled to move to the next phase of construction when we can provide some heat to the building!
YWCA Greater Newburyport is a women-owned business founded in 1883. Today our mission is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA sees a direct connection between our mission and affordable housing for seniors. On average, women earn less than men in the workplace. Social security is tied to lifelong earnings. Therefore, the lack of affordable housing disproportionately impacts women, especially those who have experienced racial or gender-based discrimination.
YWCA sees its mission reflected in its partners for this project. The general contractor and architect are both women owned businesses. Additionally, our general contractor is committed to the Commonwealth’s goals of hiring women and minority owned firms.
We want to thank the workers who braved the cold and moved this project forward during difficult conditions. We look forward to working with them to bring the building to completion. And most importantly, we look forward to providing new affordable housing to seniors most in need.
