Rita Parisi presents *I Am Zelda* — A one-act play about the woman who inspired *The Great Gatsby*

Wednesday December 10, 2025

SALISBURY – Rita Parisi will present *I Am Zelda*, an original one-act play about the extraordinary life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, at Actors Studio of Newburyport at Crossroads Plaza (1 Merrill Street, Salisbury, MA) on Saturday, December 27 at 7:30 PM.

This special benefit performance supports the Actors Studio of Newburyport, a long-standing home for original and independent theatre on the North Shore.

Long reduced to myth as the flamboyant muse of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda’s true story is far more complex — and far more compelling. *I Am Zelda* brings her voice to the forefront.

Set on New Year’s Eve, 1940, the play finds Zelda living with her mother in Montgomery, Alabama. Scott has recently died, and her Southern belle and flapper days are long since behind her. Standing at the edge of a new year, she is forced to confront her past and what may await her in the future. The result is an intimate, poignant portrait of a woman determined to reclaim her own narrative.

Rita Parisi, the creator and performer of *I Am Zelda*, has been entertaining audiences across New England for 30 years. In 2005 she founded Waterfall Productions to develop theatrical programs inspired by her love of literature, history, and character storytelling. Her shows have been performed throughout New England, New Jersey, New York, and Florida.

Rita is also active in film, with work shown at both the Boston International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.
