NEWBURY – The Newbury Garden Club has started a new annual project that recognizes and honors organizations, businesses and non-profits that provide and maintain seasonal planting that enhances the beauty of the Newbury Community.
The first recipients in 2025 are AL Prime Energy at 17 Central Street, Newbury and the Plum Island Beautification Society’s work at the Newbury Public Restroom on Plum Island Turnpike and seven container planters on Northern Boulevard, Plum Island, Newbury, Ma.
Each recipient received a Newbury Garden Club ‘custom’ designed and printed Certificate of Recognition and photos of the landscape areas they beautified and maintained.
AL Prime Energy location Supervisor Sediq Amin received the award for AL Prime Energy, and it read as follows:
AL Prime Energy is awarded this certificate in recognition of providing a beautiful display of seasonal planting for all to view and enjoy. We thank you for enhancing the beauty of our Newbury Community.

Newbury Garden Club Beautification member Patrica Robinson presented the award along with the Club President Julie Marion, Vice President Erica Swanson, and Beautification Committee Chair Charleen Maunsell.
Plum Island Beautification Society President Lynne Petty received the award for providing a creative beautiful display of seasonal planting on Plum Island Turnpike and Northern Boulevard, Plum Island Newbury, Ma. And it read as follows:
Plum Island Beautification Society Newbury, Mass. is awarded this certificate in recognition of such a wonderful group of volunteers creating and maintaining the beautiful summer planting at the Newbury Public Restroom boat planter on Plum Island Turnpike and the seven container planters on Northern Boulevard. Incredible!

Newbury Garden Club Vice President Erica Swanson and Beautification Committee Chair Charleen Maunsell presented the award to Plum Island Beautification Society President, Lynne Petty.
Members of the Plum Island Beautification Society attending were President Lynne Petty, Vice President Tracy Smith and members Jill Mandragouras, Cynthia Keefe, and Lisa Yeastedt. Members Lela Wright, Kevin Kelley, and Liz Gemba were unable to attend.
The PI Beautification Society is a volunteer group of Plum Island residents dedicated to preserving/complementing the beauty of their island home. They are volunteers who depend solely on donations for funding. If you would like to donate, contact Lynne Petty via email at
