Monday, June 9th at 7pm: The History of Measles & Measles Vaccination (VIRTUAL). Join Professor Elena Conis and MDPH Senior Epidemiology Advisor Hillary Johnson for a discussion about the history of measles and the development of its vaccine. Virtual registration required.
Tuesday, June 10th at 6:30pm: Teacup Flower Arrangements (IN PERSON). Join local florist Jennifer MacLaren of the Dew Collective to learn the art of flower arranging and take home your very own teacup flower arrangement. Registration required.
Thursday, June 12th at 10am: A History of Women’s Work: The Evolution of Women’s Working Lives (VIRTUAL). Author Janet Few discusses her new book “A History of Women’s Work: The Evolution of Women’s Working Lives”. This book delves into three main areas of women’s work: household tasks, home industries, and paid employment outside the home. Wednesday, June 4th at 2pm: Next Chapter Book Group (IN PERSON at the Senior Center). The Next Chapter Book Group invites you to join our monthly book discussion on the first Wednesday of the month. We will be meeting at the Senior Community Center. This month’s title is “The Secrets We Kept” by Laura Presscott. No registration required.
Thursday, June 5th at 4pm: Case Closed Book Group (VIRTUAL). Do you enjoy mystery, thriller and true crime novels? Come join the Case Closed Book Group on the first Thursday of the month! We read a variety of mystery, thriller and true crime books; fiction and non-fiction! New readers are always welcome. We also do not discourage those who were unable to finish the current title from attending! This month’s title is “The Return of Ellie Black” by Emiko Jean. Virtual registration required.
Tuesday, June 17th at 3pm: Classics Book Group (IN PERSON). Join NPL’s Classics Book Group! This group meets in-person on the third Thursday of every month in the Director’s Room. This month’s title is “Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison. Registration required.

Once a month: Home Delivery Services! Are you unable to come to the library? Let the library come to you! Any Newburyport who is possession of a library card and meets one of the following conditions is eligible for this program: (1) A disability and/or health issue which prevents an individual from visiting the Library, (2) Mobility issues which prevent an individual from visiting the Library, (3) Temporary physical limitations (or illness) which prevent an individual from visiting the Library for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. Tuesdays at 8am: Yoga and Mindfulness (VIRTUAL). Improve your physical and mental well-being by joining Registered Yoga Teacher Ree Coleman for yoga and mindfulness practice. Classes will be held online for the rest of the winter. No registration is necessary. The Zoom link and meeting ID can be found on the Library website’s events calendar.
2nd Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm: NPL Art Hive (IN PERSON). All skill levels are welcome. Please bring in your own supplies and projects to work on. The Library will also provide coloring pages, color pencils, and origami. Suggested art hive projects include knitting and crocheting, collaging, small-scale watercolors and/or drawings.
Thursdays (bi-weekly) at 5:15 pm: Spanish Conversation Group (IN PERSON). All levels are welcome! However, it may be best suited for those who have a basic knowledge of Spanish or above. Please note, this is not a class, but it can be a great way to practice your Spanish conversational skills and connect with others who have an interest in the language. The group is led by a Spanish-speaking librarian. Registration required.
Mondays & Thursdays from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm: Drop-In Tech Time (IN PERSON). Bring your simple technology questions for a drop-in session. We can help with the basics for your phones, laptops, tablets, and e-readers, including accessing library resources, adding Libby to a personal device, basic computer navigation, and general internet instruction. Drop-In Social Services Support (IN PERSON). The City’s licensed professional social worker Trish Boateng offers regular drop-in hours at the Library for any Newburyport resident who may need assistance. Get connected with assistance for food, housing, transportation, health, child care, or other necessities. Meetings are offered on a first-come, first-served basis every Tuesday afternoon at the library, 1:30-2:30 pm.
Council on Aging Outreach Services Drop-In Hours (IN PERSON). Outreach Specialist from the Council on Aging, Ann Freeman, is available at the Library to residents interested in learning more about the outreach services provided by the Council on Aging.
