Boxford Stiles Pond Athletics Partnership

Wednesday April 09, 2025

BOXFORD – The Town of Boxford and the Boxford Athletic Association (BAA) are pleased to announce a partnership to staff and operate Stiles Pond Beach for the upcoming 2025 season.

For decades, Stiles Pond Beach has been a beloved summer destination for residents and families, thanks in large part to the dedicated volunteer leadership of the BAA. Under this new operational model, the Town of Boxford – through its Recreation Committee – will take on oversight of beach operations. This transition includes the hiring of a paid Beach Director, who will be responsible for day-to-day operations, including scheduling lifeguards and managing the snack shack.

“The Town greatly appreciates the many years of service provided by BAA volunteers in operating Stiles Pond Beach,” said Town Administrator Matt Coogan. “Their commitment has helped make the beach a true community asset, and we look forward to continuing this tradition in partnership as the Town takes on a more active operational role.”

While the Town will now assume operational oversight, the BAA remains a vital partner in this transition.

“This is a collaborative effort between the Town and the BAA,” said BAA President Tom Stevens. “We’re proud of our long history of service at Stiles Pond Beach and are fully supportive of this new direction. Our shared goal remains the same: to provide a safe, fun, and well-run beach experience for the residents of Boxford.”

The Recreation Committee will be hiring a Beach Director and building a strong team to carry out day-to-day operations.

“We are looking forward to working with the new beach director so that Boxford can continue to enjoy one of its hidden gems,” said Lisa Donahue, Chair of the Recreation Committee. “This is an exciting opportunity to lead operations at a truly special place in Boxford.” The beach is scheduled to open in June. Season passes will be available for purchase this spring.  There will be an announcement when season pass registration is open..

The Recreation Committee will oversee operations this season while developing a long-term plan for the Town to fully take over the beach’s operation in a way that is efficient, sustainable, and community-centered.

Interested candidates for the Beach Director position are encouraged to visit the Town of Boxford website at www.boxfordma.gov and view the Human Resources page for the job posting and description.  ♦
