Town of Merrimac Invites Community to Attend Special Town Meeting on Oct. 21

MERRIMAC – The Town of Merrimac invites all registered voters to attend the fall Special Town Meeting on Monday, Oct. 21 and decide issues important to the community.

Town Meeting convenes at 7:30 p.m. in the Sweetsir School. Attendees will debate 11 items on the Town Meeting Warrant.

Article 1 requests adjustments to the FY2025 town budget based on actual costs determined after passage of the budget in the spring.

Article 2 asks voters to reduce the budgeted amount by $10,000 for solid waste, recycling, and disposal.

Articles 1 and 2 are both necessary to balance the budget, allowing the Town to be able to set the Tax Rate in November.

Article 3 requests amending the Accessory Dwelling Units section of the zoning bylaw. This requires two-thirds approval for passage.

Article 4 requests amending the zoning bylaw to add a section regarding battery energy storage systems.

Article 5 requests amending the zoning bylaw to add a section efficient use of water systems.

Articles 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 ask voters to affirm acquisition or acceptance of several properties for conservation as part of the Town Forest. These properties are at 0 Town Forest Road, 0 Red Oak Hill Road, and 0 Huse Road. All articles require two-thirds approval for passage.

Article 11 seeks to authorize the Select Board or Sewer Commission to sell an easement along Federal Way. This easement will allow cell tower owners to access their property along Federal Way.

“Town Meeting allows our residents to take a direct role in the government closest to them,” Select Board Chair Chris Manni said. “The Board invites all registered voters to attend and have their voices heard.”
