IPSWICH – Mr. Harrington cordially invites one and all to a wondrous adventure at Castle Hill!
The Harrington Circus on Castle Hill is based on a neighborhood event that happened in the summers of 1910-1913 which, according to the book Upon the Road Argilla by Sydney Shurcliff were “Without a doubt the most memorable events which occurred on the Road….” In those years, the Circus featured the summer residents of Argilla Road performing acts of fun and frolic and competing in various races and games. This year’s Circus will honor that past by including a display of photos and descriptions of those celebrations.
Times have changed, and in 2024, professional circus acts, magicians, and other entertainers will grace the stages, while visitors will have the chance to participate in contests, games, and races. Everyone is encouraged to dress in the style of the 1910s – think large, ornate hats and bustled dresses for women, sailor suits for the children, and striped pants and straw boaters for the men.
For one day only, visitors will be transported to the charm of the 1910s where they will step into nostalgia with old-fashioned games, contests, and races, learn circus tricks from professional performers, explore the Grand Allee Midway for magical surprises and activities that await inside the booths, all while strolling through a world of wandering performers, side shows, games, and thrilling circus performances including juggling and aerial acrobatics!
Mr. Harrington will open the circus promptly at 1 PM, enchanting guests until 4 PM. Professional circus acts will dazzle at the Casino stage, while the Great House Patio Stage hosts contests, performances and mesmerizing magic acts throughout the afternoon. Between events, explore the sideshow tents filled with surprises and activities, accompanied by strolling musicians and magicians adding to the atmosphere of discovery and delight.
Delicious fare offerings from onsite vendors include BBQ, sandwiches, snacks, and ice cream. For adults, beverages from Mill River Winery, True North Ales, and 1634 Meadery will also be available for sale.
