IPSWICH — Fire Chief Paul Parisi is pleased to report that the Ipswich Fire Department is welcoming a new firefighter upon his graduation from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Firefighter/EMT Curtis J. Levasseur graduated Friday from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program.

Firefighter/EMT Levasseur is an Ipswich resident and 2015 graduate of Ipswich High School. He recently completed an EMT program and is enrolled at UMass Boston. Firefighter/EMT Levasseur is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 2017 to 2022.

Firefighter Levasseur was among 31 graduates from 14 fire departments to graduate from the Academy’s Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class #321. The graduates completed the 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program at the Stow campus.

The Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program teaches the essentials of fire and non-fire conditions, life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack. The graduates are now certified at the level of Firefighter I and II and in hazardous material operation.

“I’m pleased to welcome Firefighter/EMT Levasseur to the Ipswich Fire Department,” said Chief Parisi. “I’m excited to see where his career will lead him. His appointment brings the department back to our authorized compliment of 12 line firefighters since the retirement of Firefighter Keith Carlson in November. I know Curtis will do a great job here at IFD and will embrace our values of Integrity, Compassion, and Professionalism.”
