Watch Your Holiday Tree Burn

Tuesday January 09, 2024

NEWBURY – The Newbury Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual bonfire from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, for trees dropped off by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The Old Newbury Bonfire will be held at the Tendercrop Growing Field, adjacent to Spencer-Peirce- Little Farm at 5 Little’s Lane, Newbury. The Bonfire event is free, but there is a parking fee of $20 per car. Due to its popularity, the parking pass must be purchased online ahead of the event.
The 11th Annual Old Newbury Bonfire benefits the Newbury Volunteer Fire Department, Protection Fire Company #2. The bonfire also honors the original purchase of Newbury, MA in 1701.
Print your ticket with a barcode prior to the event. Enter the event via Little’s Lane and show your ticket to the parking attendant. Parking passes are non-refundable, and the event will not be rescheduled.
Before the Bonfire, the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm invites guests to visit the first floor of the manor house, built in 1690, from 3 to 4 p.m. At the bonfire in the field, enjoy food, beer, wine and other beverages available for purchase from local vendors: The Trolley Dogs, Metzy’s, Northshore Beefie Boys, The Whoopie Pie Wagon, Justine’s Baked Goods, Anchor Stone Deck Pizza, Ipswich Ale, Far From the Tree Cider, Decanted Wine, House Bear Brewing and Byfield Coffee Co.
Trees should not be brought to the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm or the Tendercrop Fields, both private property. Trees without decorations or lights, that are not bagged, will be picked up between Jan. 2 and 9 in Newburyport for the bonfire. The tree pickup may differ from the regular trash pickup.
